How do you wear yours? - Part 1

The skirt has never gone away, its always been there. All through the decades the skirt has been a prominent member to every girls wardrobe - whether the hemlines are super short or super long its a versatile, must-have piece.

This year, the skirt has been bigger and better - with the growing trend of diversity in the skirt - going from long to short in the flick of a hemline, it is time ladies to embrace our legs, feel the femininity and find out how to wear yours. There are 4 main players this season, and here are the first 2 and their day to night solutions on how to wear them. Keep glued to find out the next 2 "must-have" skirts of 2010.

Mini Skirt

Not just for the 16 year olds with legs up to their chins. Everyone can wear the mini, its all about being clever with what you team with it.
In summer, go bare legged, with a glistening tan (fake or not) smooth skin and some brimming confidence. In Winter, get comfy and cosy with the fail safe opaques and for a more upbeat, youthful look keep your eyes peeled for the AMAZING Henry Holland tights - how much do I love the suspender ones?!
Keep the fabric less frilly, and concentrate more about texture, fabric and colour. Make not only the length the eye-catcher, pick an eye popping colour to be able to mix n match with any chosen top for both day and night!

Day Look:

The key for this look is to dress everything down, go for flat shoes, rather than heels - wearing loafers or brogues helps to un-feminise the look. keep accesorise simple yet refined and go for a casual over the body bag for practicality and cuteness.

*skirt: Just Female £125, Top: ASOS £30 Bag: Ash Daisy Leather bag £118 Bangles: ASOS £10 Loafer: Office £55

Night Look:

The key to the Night outfit, is to add a touch of glam metallics to a plain matte shade of colour. Vamp it up with some super high criss cross sandals, and sexy sheer vest, this looks stylish, contemporary and chic. No element of "Tartiness" with this.

*Skirt: as before, Silk Drape Top: Donna Karen £811.77, Embellished sheer vest: £275, Shoes: Miss KG £65, Keyhole Clutch: ASOS £60

Maxi Skirt

This is a great option if your a little leg shy - hiding a multitude of sins but if you choose the right fabric and style, your guaranteed to not resemble that of a granny, but of a laid back glamzonian!
The same rules apply for both day and night look. however this is a more of a laid back style and not so prim and proper.

Day Look:

The key to getting this one right, is all to do with what accessories you are to team with the skirt. Don't go for softly feminine cutsey jewelry, go for a multi-strand longline necklace in a alternative colour, rough the textures up with denim and crushed leather. A plain black vest top is all you need to fix this look up for day wear.

*Jacket: Denim Crop Topshop £40, Maxi Skirt: NewLook £22, Top: Black vest ASOS @£6, Boots: ASOS £45, Necklace: Juicy Couture £120, Bag: Miu Miu £810

Night Look:

The look is very similar to the day look, however its key to add a few gold embellishment details in order to give it a more glam luxe look, suitable for evening. One amazing thing with this look is the skirt is long enough for you to still wear pretty flats. Either way this look is pretty versatile and even more easier to wear.

*Skirt: as before, Top: Milly £275, Sandels: March Jacobs £375, Ring: Topshop £12.50, Bag: ASOS £25.

I hope these two skirts make it into your wardrobe and you start to see how easy it is to make one piece fit many different purposes and how to change your preconception.

Part 2 coming soon...

Until next time....
